If I’m being honest, I just really liked the sound of podstack.substack.com. It’s simple, memorable, and easy to share. That also describes what I want these podcast recommendations to be.
I get so excited when a podcast really resonates with me that all I want to do is shout it from the rooftops. But apart from tweet-sized posts, I haven’t had a place to express those thoughts and feelings. So I’m starting this home for them.
What took you so long?
And by you, I mean me. What took me so long to create somewhere to talk about podcasts? Finding the time, fighting the self-doubt, and finally convincing myself to just do it. Part of that convincing came from conversations I was hearing about needing more podcast listeners in 2023 (mostly from Lauren Passell and Arielle Nissenblatt). I hope by creating another place to read about podcasts, I can help with those efforts. My texted recommendations to all my friends and family members can only do so much.
The other part was letting go of making it perfect or super strategic. The podcast marketing side of my brain felt obligated to really strategize and build something specific, but the podcast lover in me just wants to celebrate great audio. And that part of me is going to be the driving force of this newsletter.
Podcasters deserve to know how special their work is. That their work made an impact, no matter the size. They work so hard and they bring me so much joy. So I feel a burning need to somehow contribute to more people finding these shows.
What to expect
My first official post of podcast recommendations is a whole year in the making and I’m very excited to share it. It’s an interesting little experiment I conducted that highlights the impact that podcast newsletters can have on discovery and reaching new listeners.
If you’re new to podcasts, a long-time listener, or you want to tell me about your show, I hope you’ll subscribe. I’d love to hear from you and I’m excited to shout from the substacks about podcasts I love.
